
Happy New Year!
At the end of December last year, I caught a cold and couldn’t finish my painting in time for New Year’s Day. Fortunately, thanks to nasal irrigation, I could feel the bacteria weakening by New Year’s Eve.
In Japanese pronunciation, there is only a one-sound difference between “snake” and “shrimp.” Similarly, the words “toshi: year” (年) and “meshi” (召し) in the title also differ by just one sound in Japanese. The “toshi: year” (年) refers to this year’s zodiac sign, the snake. “Meshi” means “to eat.”
